Retail Promenade Refresh

Elevating the Commercial Entrance

For a retail or restaurant storefront, the landscape is the first “handshake” a customer receives. In this project, our objective was to replace an unstructured border with a defined, rhythmic evergreen installation that provides a high-end feel while maintaining clear visibility for the business signage.

The Power of Repetition

We utilized a series of Emerald Green Arborvitae spaced with mathematical precision. This repetitive “conical” motif serves several design functions:

  • Visual Direction: The repeating vertical lines naturally guide the eye toward the entrance of the building.
  • Layered Depth: By alternating the taller arborvitae with rounded boxwood shrubs in the background, we created a “staggered” effect that adds visual interest and density without feeling cluttered.
  • Uniformity: In a commercial setting, consistency is key. These evergreens provide a neat, architectural look that requires minimal pruning to stay within their footprint.

Granite Cobblestone Edging

To ensure this bed remains low-maintenance and structurally sound, we installed a heavy-duty granite Belgian block edge. This serves as a permanent physical barrier between the asphalt of the parking area and the organic mulch of the planting bed. This edging prevents soil washout during heavy rains and protects the plants from vehicle encroachment, ensuring the bed remains pristine over time.

Year-Round Performance

Unlike seasonal flowers that require constant turnover, this “Green-on-Green” palette ensures the business looks established and cared for even in the middle of winter. The dark mulch provides a clean, high-contrast backdrop that makes the lime and forest-green tones of the conifers pop, providing a sophisticated look that complements the building’s masonry.
