Premium Material Selection
We chose light-toned travertine pavers to brighten this narrow corridor. Because light colors reflect more natural light, the walkway makes the space between the buildings feel significantly wider and more open. The pavers are laid in a multi-piece pattern to break up the “tunnel” effect, providing a sophisticated, custom-fit look that standard concrete simply cannot achieve.
The Cobblestone Curve
To soften the linear nature of the architecture, we installed a hand-set cobblestone retaining edge. Rather than a straight line, we designed a gentle curve that:
- Creates Flow: The organic shape leads the eye naturally down the path.
- Adds Texture: The rugged, weathered surface of the cobblestones provides a beautiful natural contrast to the smooth, refined finish of the travertine.
- Functional Drainage: By elevating the planting bed, we ensure proper drainage for the shrubs and perennials, protecting both the stone path and the home’s foundation.
Integrated Softscaping
The planting bed features a high-contrast dark mulch that makes the vibrant green foliage and rose blooms pop. By keeping the plantings vertical and managed, we’ve ensured that the garden provides lush color without encroaching on the walkway’s functional space. This is a low-maintenance, high-impact solution for homeowners looking to reclaim every square foot of their property.
